About Al Basar USA
No One Goes Blind From Something We Can Prevent.
Since 1989, we have brought eye care to underserved communities across 53 countries. This is who we are, and why we do not stop.
Our mission
Restore Sight, Restore Dignity
We deliver free, high-quality eye care to communities the world’s healthcare systems have not reached — mobile camps where there are no clinics, permanent hospitals where there is no specialist, and training where there are no local doctors. Schools where no one has tested a child’s vision.
Our vision
A World Where Preventable Blindness Has No Place.
Thirty-seven years after our first camp in Hyderabad, we still believe what we believed then: that sight is a gift, and that no one should lose it for lack of distance, money, or a trained doctor nearby.
Our story
How It Began
The idea for AL BASAR USA emerged from a shared concern about the unequal access to eye care faced by vulnerable communities, particularly in underserved areas of Asia and Africa. Inspired by the life-changing impact of accessible vision care, AL BASAR USA was established to help expand access to quality eye care for people in greatest need, without discrimination.
Today, AL BASAR USA is an independently governed U.S. nonprofit organization that works with like-minded organizations to advance its own charitable mission. Through formal partnerships and program agreements, we support initiatives such as Cataract Surgery Outreach and School Eye Screening Programs, along with medical outreach, sight-restoring services, and other efforts addressing preventable blindness.

Independently governed.
AL BASAR USA is governed by an independent Board of Directors, which maintains authority over the organization’s programs, funds, and activities. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we operate in accordance with applicable IRS requirements and remain focused on our charitable mission, while avoiding political activities and private benefit.
